The model captures the full production cycle of a sandwich panel plant: from raw material intake (steel coils, chemical components for Polyurethane/Polyisocyanurate foam, mineral wool batts) through the continuous or discontinuous laminating line to finished panels cut to customer-specified lengths. Each step is modeled with specific consumption factors per square meter for different core materials and thicknesses, including catalyst and blowing agent ratios for PUR/PIR foam, and adhesive application for mineral wool.
Production capacity is dynamically calculated based on line speed (m/min), panel width and thickness, and shift schedule. The model accounts for changeover times when switching between core types, thicknesses, or metal sheet gauges, and allows modeling of a multi-shift growing ramp-up. Scrap generation from start-up, edge trimming, and off-spec panels is explicitly modeled with recycling returns for metal and foam waste, reducing raw material cost.
The financial structure includes detailed CapEx for production line(s), coil handling, mixing/polyol station, saw, stacker, packaging, and auxiliary equipment, as well as building, land, and infrastructure. Operating expenses are built up from direct costs (raw materials, energy, labor, maintenance, consumables), indirect manufacturing costs, and SG&A. The model separates fixed and variable energy consumption for the line and utilities, reflecting real plant metering setups.
Revenue is modeled by product line — wall panels, roof panels, cold storage panels, and optional customized panels — each with its own price per m² and market share. The model can simulate several sales scenarios (B2B wholesale, direct to projects, export) and automatically calculates capacity constraints and order book lead times. The investment requirement is presented as an order-of-magnitude illustration, not final values, as it depends on plant scale and configuration.
